Special exhibition

Special exhibition "Animal worlds made of wood"

He has always been a woodworm, says Götz-Peter Reichelt. A coincidence took him many years ago to the woodcarving artists of the village Ubud in Bali. Meanwhile, the photographer has become one of them.
Chip by chip, he makes objects that are built out of a coherent piece of wood like a jigsaw puzzle - and tell animal stories with details like intricate interior worlds.
With his models, he wants to bring the endangered wildlife into view.
His Noah's Ark, with 71 pairs of animals, even holds the world record as the largest work of its kind.

From 4 December 2018 to 17 March 2019, selected objects of the

invites the museum team to a vernissage with Götz-Peter Reichelt. After a brief introduction by exhibition manager Daniel Bein, the artist presents his works on a special tour and is then available for questions. We invite all interested parties, employees and representatives
Representatives of the media cordially.

The exhibition "Animal Worlds of Wood" can be seen until March in the Zoological Museum.

Elephants and water buffalo, rhinos and giraffes, small calves like heavyweight animals crowd into a big puzzle. Or they nestle one by one into the wooden background. The photographer and woodcarver Götz-Peter Reichelt often gets his inspiration for his unusual wood sculptures and reliefs from the Zoological Museum. Here is a selection of his works from 4 December 2018 to 17 March 2019.

Since 1995, the photographer has made his carving a profession. He traveled for many years with the camera through foreign countries, he works today motifs of exotic, mostly endangered animals in driftwood planks. "So the animal lives a little in its natural environment," says the Bali-based artist. The natural woods form the basis for the setting in which Reichelt tells his animal stories. At the same time, they are the stuff out of which he forms the motifs.

With the Noah's Ark, he even entered the Guinness Book of Records: his one-piece carved ark with a total of 71 pairs of animals is considered the world's greatest feat of its kind.

At the opening of the exhibition on Tuesday, 4 December, at 11.00, the Zoological Museum invites you to a public tour with Götz-Peter Reichelt.

The primary idea was to create a chess play with animals. I tried to figure out which animal would fit the best to the character of each chessmen. After a while I came to this decision:

Cheetah, sitting like a monument in the savannah, overlooking everything will become the king. A cobra, very dangerous, perfidious and fast moving, has something queen like. The bishop, running fast along the white and black lines will become a ostrich while the kangaroo has all the qualities of a jumping horse . The bear stands in the corners like a tower and the funny suricates are controlling their living space like an eagle.

The idea was to buy the playing field somewhere. But than,I had to make the checkered leaves plate by myself, as all I saw didn´t fit. It was a kind of unexpected marquetry work I didn´t really enjoy, but it turned out brilliant.

Erna the genetically engineered pig

The animal farm gave me the inspiration to create "Erna"...

The animal farm gave me the inspiration to create "Erna", which from the way of making, is similar to rhino project, but has a complete different content.
Listening to the rhino story we still talk our way out of anything, as Africa is so far away, but Erna is everywhere we eat and drink.

Erna the genetically engineered pig.
This story explains the way the food processing industry is altering our  daily food inch by inch, day by day  to take a turn for the worse....

Death of the Rhino

Once upon a time in Africa, a big population of animals like Zebras, Lions, Rhinos and others was living in the plains of the Kilimanjaro...

But then a poacher came and shoot the rhino in the head to steal his horn...

Than the horn took a long way to asia, where it found its market as aphrodisiacs but no proof of any strengthening power. In the end the story runs like this, cut the branch of a tree you are sitting on and you will brake your bones. It´s almost Five Minutes to This Midnight, we can only save this world by starting to protect all living creatures right now. That bullet in the rhino´s head will also become our own bullet,if we don´t start changing.and changing now.
